| Watching episode 10 of Dollhouse. I think it's kinda awesome that Topher programmed a doll just to hang out with. XD I also like how Paul Ballard aka the dude who played Helo on BSG keeps taking his shirt off. Oh look, there it goes again! Why does he even bother buttoning it? XD (Sam Winchester: take note.) Tonight I went to a concert that was a) very very long and b) very very boring and c) took place in a church with very uncomfortable pews. I distracted myself by planning a comment fic meme for next week, deciding what to re-tag all my fic entries at my fic comm with (done! wheeeeefic - now with easier-to-find stories!), and imagining that the conductor was Jared. | |

| No links this time because I'm just that rushed. Anyone who needs links, please either check the community archives or ask here and hope some other kind member will help out. ~_^ I know the Chocolate and Asphodel v.2 deadline was July 1, but as I'm swamped anyway, everyone feel free to take until July 20 as the new hard and fast deadline. At that point, the zine will be what it will be and I won't accept any more submissions. Because the zine minimum for stories is 3000 words, there's still time for some of you to make it in, even if this is the first time you've heard of it. There is a beta and acceptance process to be in the zine, so the sooner you turn in stories, the better. Artists, we could use some color and grayscale full-age pieces, if you're interested. Please mail all submissions to ssrlzine at yahoo.com, although pieces mailed other places eventually find their way over there. ***** The BLU archive should debut on Monday, however, I have a feeling it will be closer to Tuesday, as I am still missing a few things here and there. If you're on the BLU project and owe me art or a bio, please get it in! ***** Oh, ok, one link: Don't forget to update your desktop calendar to July, everyone! It's courtesy of ghot and I can attest to how lovely a background it makes. ***** Retro Fest ends this month, so don't forget to make your claims and to work on your piece if you already claimed one! ***** Happy 4th of July, everyone, because it's the 4th everywhere, and it's a Saturday, so enjoy (safely)! *HUGS COMMUNITY* love, lore | |

| Wow.
Art imitates life. One thing I glory in is reading battle tactics and communications logistics in stories. It's part of the reason I keep such a keen ear to the ways battles are fought and information gets out. As the guy said in Fables, one of the worst mistakes amateur armies make is prioritizing weaponry over communications. It's also something a lot of authors don't take into consideration, and I get annoyed when I read battle scenes that have nothing of the confusion of war, that make every decision perfectly black and white, that take no consideration of decisions in a combat zone vs. the rules of war, etc.
I just gave the dark wizards a substitute for twitter feeds. Voldemort may have been a lousy general, but I figure the knights of walpurgis had been doing things long enough that they have communication lines built in between the families.
The OB prequel ended up getting its own epilogue (not that the rest of the fic is finished--it grew). I wanted to see a battle from a point of view we don't get too often, the wife left at home to wait. And no, listening to "The Night Chicago Died" had nothing to do with it, I swear.

| On this day 233 years ago, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail on the declaration of independence of the United States of America:I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. -- I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. -- Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not. 1776 - Is Anybody There? When Johnny Comes Marching HomeBattle Hymnn of the RepublicFanfare for the Common ManWhen the Saints Go Marching In

| hat tip jerico_cacawDisgruntled Mexicans Plan an Election Message to Politicians: We Prefer Nobody MEXICO CITY — With Mexico’s midterm elections two weeks away, the most spirited campaigning has been for a candidate with no name, no face and no particular policy positions. Call him Nulo.
Nulo — Spanish for null and void — is drawing support from disgruntled Mexicans who say the country’s politicians are focused more on their own power games than on the people they are supposed to serve. So, instead of urging voters to throw their weight behind any of the real candidates vying to be elected mayors, governors or members of Congress on July 5, Nulo’s backers are calling on Mexicans to nullify their ballots — and vote for no one at all.
Mexico was essentially a one-party state until 2000, when the Institutional Revolutionary Party, known as the PRI, finally lost its grip on the presidency. But a sense of frustration has developed in recent years as more choices on the ballot have not, in the minds of many Mexicans, translated into a more responsive government.
The country is now in the midst of a particularly rough patch. The economy is in the doldrums, hit hard by the financial crisis in the United States. Political corruption is regarded as being as bad as ever, a point highlighted recently by the arrests of several mayors accused of consorting with drug traffickers. And insecurity remains a constant worry, despite the anticrime offensive being waged by President Felipe Calderón.

| More Big Bang recs! I'm still working my way through them - I have fics saved from way back at the start which I haven't even READ yet, although at last count I've actually managed to make my way through almost forty so far. Which is probably pretty good, really. XD Anyway. Here are seven Big Bang recs. All of them are J2. ( Under the cut because there are a few! ) | |

| VOTE! It's the last day! TITLE: A Royal Decision PERPETRATOR: Queen Maleficent SUE-O-METER: (awful) FULL NAME: Princess Hermione of Ravenclaw. SPECIES: Witch HAIR: "luscious honey-brown curls", "thick" EYES: "deep blue eyes" MARKINGS: "delicate hands", POSSESSIONS: the "boldest" of stagecoaches with a four-post bed inside. The book "Ancient and Primordial Spells for the Advanced Mind", "a fleecy bathrobe", a "silver fringed comb", "her gown, a gift from Queen Lily, of rich emerald green silks embroidered with small beads and stones, which glittered in the candlelight. The bodice was charmed to hug her waist perfectly and the neckline was modest but not quaint. A stunning diamond necklace, which in fact was a Ravenclaw heirloom, was strung around her elegant neck with diamond studs in her ears to match." ORIGIN: This is set in a magical kingdom. The houses are kingdoms. She is the daughter of King Richard and Queen Ella of Ravenclaw, and is the heir to the throne of Ravenclaw. CONNECTIONS TO CANON: "Lady Lavender" is her cousin. This might be the first fic where Lavender is ever connected to anything Ravenclaw. ;) There is a Prince Harry of Gryffindor, Prince Draco of Slytherin, and Prince Cedric of Hufflepuff. I hope he's a ghost. She meets many o the characters we know and love in their form and is going to meet Harry at a ball. Someone (probably Harry) sends her a love letter before the ball. She squeals in excitement. SPECIAL ABILITIES: Bares little resemblance to Hermione Granger, save for a love of reading. NOTES: The plot is not set in stone. The Suethor is going to write what her reviewers want, "whether it be a dramione, harmony or any other sort of fic". How about canon? Also reviewers going "I love the time-period you set this in" make me feel ill. This is not an actual "time-period", just some pseudo-medieval/early modern Europe tripe. It means there are *~princes~* and *~princesses~* and *~pretty dresses~* with *~carriages~* and *~manners~*. Also, it's filled with purple prose. ( Why is there only one Princess? Oh yeah, because everyone has to want her. ) | |

| hat tip reality_hammerErik Nelson spewed a vile piece that was quickly taken down at the Huffington Post. But I'll reprint it here because people saved it before that happened. In Sarah Palin's resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the "world needs more Trigs, not fewer." That's a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it's kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons.
Her first act as President: To introduce a Pre-K lunch buffet that includes lead paint chips. Sort of a Large HEAD-START Program.
She will then encourage women to hold off on pregnancies until their 40's just to mix up some chromosomes. There's more, of course. Suffice it to say that hypocrisy doesn't even begin to cover the hatred that the left unleashes on anyone who dares oppose them.

| I totally forgot - I have Dreamwidth invites going spare. First in, first served! XDFS2C87XMKSVAAACZR9 3FTMGTS4Y88JGAAACZSA Z4NYV9NATTMRJAAAC42H 4Z5BRKN784MZ7AAAC42J Ugh, I should probably try using my Dreamwidth at some point. Yesterday I started making a Jayne Cobb hat, but unfortunately a) my crochet hook is too thin and b) the yarn I bought is too thin. I wanted chunky yarn and a chunky hook but unfortunately could find neither so I was using a thin hook and thin yarn and it's going to take FOREVER and will not look as awesome as it should. SO I started making this hat instead which is FUNKY. Except it uses puff stitches which are a bit of a nightmare. I shall persevere, though! It'll be awesome if I finish it! My sleep patterns are fucked up. It's a bit annoying. I didn't get to sleep until about 3.30am this morning and I didn't wake up until 11.30am. UGH. I need to start making myself wake up earlier so I can get to sleep earlier. I love a sleep in but I hate it when it becomes less of a 'wake up and lie in bed for a while, reading' and more 'wake up in the AFTERNOON'. PLANS FOR TODAY: 1) Make another Big Bang rec list. I read the most adorable story last night and I think I might have to read it again a few hundred times. 2) Reply to comments on my Big Bang. Am I allowed to be ridiculously pleased with the number of comments? Cos I AM. It's, like, 2 pages more than my other most popular story. :DDDD 3) Work on my funky hat. 4) Clean up the kitchen. 5) Go to mum and dad's for dinner, then go to a concert with Dad. I'd really rather not but they guilt tripped me into it. *sigh* Finally, here is a picture of boys in suits. GQMF indeed. Click for full size. YUM. | |

| Went to the salon. Got hair layered. Went to mall, had half a six inch Subway sandwhich, the other half of which will become dinner (probably plus something else. Last night I was hungry and devoured two steak sandwiches, but they were on the smallish side). I do believe I am already losing weight. By God, I shall return to size 12s.
Did I mention I'm functioning on about 4 hours sleep? Went to sleep at 3'ish (not my choice, damn you, insomnia!) and woke up at the wonderful hour of 7:15. I swear, when my body knows I need to be up for something the next day, it damn well complies.
But now I shall nap. Granted, most people wouldn't call my naps naps. I sleep for about four or five hours. I nap like I drabble, epicly. Not that you'd know it by the amount of comments--I love my reviewers though I can't think of anything to say to them that often, but it's an epic told in drabbles ficlets, you'd think people would be more amenable to giving drabbles a try. Unless they're all scared of KC content, in which case, in the words of Titus, "quit being a wussy!"
I'ma sleep now. I'll work on HP fic later.

| DestinoIn 1946 legendary surrealist Salvador Dali formed an unlikely friendship with Walt Disney, and they spent some time collaborating on a short film called Destino. Dali and Disney artist John Hench worked on a lot of storyboards, but only 18 seconds of test footage were shot before the project was abandoned.
In 1999, Disney's nephew Roy Edward Disney was working on Fantasia 2000 and he decided to complete the Destino project, over 50 years after production began.

| A 'coup' in Honduras? Nonsense.Sometimes, the whole world prefers a lie to the truth. The White House, the United Nations, the Organization of American States, and much of the media have condemned the ouster of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya this past weekend as a coup d'état.Constitutional assemblies are convened to write new constitutions. When Zelaya published that decree to initiate an "opinion poll" about the possibility of convening a national assembly, he contravened the unchangeable articles of the Constitution that deal with the prohibition of reelecting a president and of extending his term. His actions showed intent.
Our Constitution takes such intent seriously. According to Article 239: "No citizen who has already served as head of the Executive Branch can be President or Vice-President. Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform, as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years."
The Supreme Court and the attorney general ordered Zelaya's arrest for disobeying several court orders compelling him to obey the Constitution. He was detained and taken to Costa Rica. Why? Congress needed time to convene and remove him from office. With him inside the country that would have been impossible. This decision was taken by the 123 (of the 128) members of Congress present that day.
Don't believe the coup myth. The Honduran military acted entirely within the bounds of the Constitution. The military gained nothing but the respect of the nation by its actions.

| hat tip mosellegreenQuoteUntil the Reformation destroyed the Church's power to resist the whims of kings -- who suddenly had the option of pulling their nation out of communion with the pope -- no king would have had the power or authority to rule with anything like the monarchical power of a U.S. president. Of course, no medieval monarch wielded 25-40 percent of his subjects' wealth, or had the power to draft their children for foreign wars. It took the rise of democratic legal theory, as Hans Herman Hoppe has pointed out, to convince people that the State was really just an extension of themselves: a nice way to coax folks into allowing the State ever increasing dominance over their lives. | |
